Silver Teal Cooks is an employment agency that introduces all kinds of great cooks to employers for full-time, part-time and temporary jobs.
In early 2017, Fiona at Silver Teal Cooks approached me to help with the business' website. Having not had a new website for 8-9years, it was in need of modernisation and it was essential that a responsive version was developed to allow for a better user experience.
Some other essential requirements were that the site integrated with the enquiry and booking system which was already in place and something with a user friendly CMS that could be easily updated in-house when jobs were available.
Upon further investigation, I found that the old site was using an outdated version of Easy CMS. The process to upload jobs, manage bookings and generally update any content on the site was convoluted and nonintuitive meaning that the information was presented in a clunky manner. I tend to use either Squarespace, Shopify or Weebly for smaller clients who would like to have an affordable content management system. By using these platforms, there is readily available help online via their technical desks, forums and from other users who have posted helpful articles. This is turn allows the client to understand and manage their website more effectively which reduces their outgoings on minor fixes - leaving the larger development improvements to the experts!
Whilst I got to work sourcing new images for site to work with the existing brand, I enlisted the help of local copywriter Ashley Davies to put together some written content.
Fiona and I sat down together to replicate and improve the booking system integration she had into the new site. After many years or tirelessly entering the new jobs in such a fashion, Fiona seemed pleased to know that the new site would allow her to duplicate and entry and edit the copy - saving a vast amount of admin time overall which was a great relief. Each entry had a reference number entered against it so that when a client emailed about a particular enquiry, that reference code was used in the title of the enquiry inbox and could be easily identified when Silver Teal Cooks responded.
Another large requirement for Silver Teal Cooks was to retain as much SEO benefit the old site had gained, when launching the new site. I carried out a small SEO review and found that improvements could be made within image sizing, alt tags, keywords and meta descriptions throughout the site. As well as submitting the sitemap to Webmaster Tools, we ensured that the Google Apps for Business account was aware of the updated site and the Analytics code was updated too.
The result has been a simplified, easy to navigate site which works well for Silver Teal Cooks from an administrative point of view and continues to rank well for the relevant terms on search engines too.
