The concept of The YAY Makers came from Kate's love of everything handmade!

In 2011, Kate launched a craft and vintage market in Aberdeen called ‘The March Hare Market’. They strived to deliver an event that showcased the amazing talent within the North East of Scotland and gave people a “handmade home” where they could visit each month and shop for quality products. Having done this for 4 years, Kate learnt a lot but more importantly met some fantastically talented people and made some really great friends...

After a big move to Edinburgh and finding full time employment, Kate's markets became a distant memory which she longed to have back most days. Whilst on maternity, she worked hard creating a master plan on how she could bring this creativity back into her life again...and so The Yay Makers came to be!

The YAY Makers is all about working in ‘colouraboration’ with indie artists to put the YAY in your day! She produces colourful, creative monthly subscription boxes that support talented makers and deliver happiness to your door.

Kate approached me to brand The YAY Makers with her - working in close collaboration. She wanted to really bring happiness into the logo, using bright but not too garish colours either...! The idea of movement, feeling care-free and having this explosion of happiness once the YAY box was delivered was to under pin the logo design.

The wider brand was to be developed to assets which could be used to house text, offers, shapes, be used as creative 'marks' throughout all elements of the brand collateral - online and offline.

After working for a solid day on the logo together in Kate's YAY sanctuary, we concluded on this marque:

Over the next month, I produced an ecommerce Squarespace website for the YAY Makers. Squarespace doesn't provide an 'out the box' subscription payment plan and therefore it was essential that an external payment system was integrated to the site. Using MoonClerk, we created payment plans for each subscription option, and individual one off payments were to continue through Squarespace. The site was also replicated on Crate Joy which is one of the world's best subscription box platforms.

The YAY Makers launched the first subscription box in May and have gone from strength to strength. They have recently announced an exciting collaboration with The Lucky Dip club which will hopefully set them on an even bigger path into the future!
